Parliament has voted by a wide margin to condemn the growing international Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign being waged against Israel for what is alleged to be the Jewish state’s failure to accord equal rights to Arabs in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories.

Gunther Jikeli has been researching antisemitism for over ten years, but unlike many academics, his experience is also grounded in practice in his native Germany and elsewhere. Graduating from the Center for Research on Antisemitism at Berlin’s Technical University, he was involved from the start with the Kreuzberg Initiative against Antisemitism, known in Germany as KIgA.

In this article, I discuss surveys, academic debates, and research on antisemitism among Muslims in Muslim-majority countries and in Europe today. After a review of antisemitism in both contexts, different explanations for its causes are presented.
